Why do we need, in addition to forgiving, to cancel debts?

Answer from the V.M. Samael Aun Weor.

It is not enough to simply forgive, you have to cancel the debts; and that's it. Someone could forgive an enemy, but he would never cancel debts. We have to be honest, we need to cancel, and that is the meaning, at the bottom of that phrase that says: "Forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors."

As long as one identifies with himself, he cannot forgive anyone. It hurts to be insulted, it hurts to be humiliated, it hurts to be belittled. Because? Because it has the I of pride, it has the I of self-love inside there, I revive well; and as long as one has the I of self-love, it hurts that another hurts his self-love. Thus, if we do not identify ourselves, then it is easy for us to forgive, and even more, I say: cancel the debts, that is better.

Answer from the Magazine "The Wisdom of the Being".

Life, as it is conceived, has become mechanistic and unconscious, working, studying, eating, walking, driving..., are activities that are carried out with the asleep consciousness, mechanically, in a kind of collective hypnosis in which gives importance to having more, earning more, knowing more, being more than others, being right... Faced with the dream of consciousness, the human being forgets his soul and not only identifies with external things, but also he also identifies with himself, with his sufferings, passions, grudges, ambitions, envy, vanity, pride.

The person identifies with himself thinking that he is going to have a lot of money, a latest model car or thinking that he is a great person, that he is going to be well known, that he knows a lot. There are many ways to identify with yourself. One can begin by not identifying with oneself and then not identifying with the exterior, because only in this way is it possible to love others. “When one does not identify, for example, with an insulter, he forgives him, he loves him, he cannot hurt him; And if someone hurts your self-love, but you do not identify with your self-love, then it is clear that he cannot feel any pain, since he does not hurt you.

As long as there is identification with oneself and with the vanities of the outside world, it will not be possible to forgive, as stated in the Our Father prayer: "Forgive our debts, just as we forgive our debtors." In addition to forgiving, it is also necessary to cancel debts, because if the enemy is forgiven, but the debt is not canceled, then resentment remains, grudges are fed, and unhappiness continues.
