Previous PICTURE Huallay's stone wood Photographs by: Gonzalo Borouncle Peruvian National Sanctuary It’s located in the heart of the plateau of Bombon, Huallay district; province of Pasco. Extension: 6,815 hectares. It was created to preserve geological formations. It is considered that the formation of this wood was 70 millions of years ago, in the early Cenozoic or Tertiary age. Little is known about the origin of this geological formation.
It is estimate that most of the figures are between 10 to 20 meters tall, although some of more than 100 meters have been registered. Seemed from the distance it looks like a wood (that’s why it’s called like so), but as the traveler is getting closer, it is possible to identify dozens of figures that the inhabitants name in accordance with their imagination. |
